What did old skool bodybuilders use for supps

Hi,

I have been reading over the "Arnold Encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding" and using most of the techniques he used and also have been following his routines for a year now with exceptional results. I am curious to see what these guys used to use for a pre workout. Anyone know? I am assuming it's just coffee as they wouldn't have had any pre-workouts back in the day (correct me if I am wrong but I only remember when Jack3d came out and though that kicked it off).

Also, I read in the Encyclopedia to have fish oil tablets to assist with joint soreness such as elbows when lifting heavy. I am assuming that the drugs they were taking back then would have allowed faster recovery and therefore tendons as such would have repaired a lot faster than using Fish oil tablets?

Thanks in advance and if this is in the wrong thread, please let me know and I will happily change it.

What do you think of that move where bodybuilders shake their quad around then flex it into extreme hardness?

I'm going to make a /r/bodybuilding survey. Here are the questions/responses so far. Let me know what you'd like to add/change before I make the survey live

The survey is not live yet. Do not submit responses here. I'm only looking for suggestions right now.

Hey /r/bodybuilding, I'm going to make a long-form census for this sub. I'm wondering what questions you'd like to add/change before I make the survey go up? Most of the questions will be optional so people won't have to answer everything. And please help me with the Supplements section because I don't know a lot about AAS and I don't know what kind of general supplements to include in the "GNC" supplement group. Also, I'd appreciate some app suggestions for tracking food/training. My list isn't very good.

I'm going to make it a requirement to sign in to google just so people don't submit multiple responses, but all responses will be anonymous and emails will not be recorded on my end.

If I wanted a body like zyzz, could I just hit 4 sets of squats a week?

Him and jon skywalker don’t have big legs and they’re still able to fit in to slimmer jeans. I want to be able to have enough muscle to at least have some separation but don’t want big legs by any means. Are squats once a week enough to allow this?

Suggested Full-body Routine (3 days per week) for a 40+ hobby-lifter

Hi all,

First time poster here. I was wondering if people may be able to give me some routine and lift recommendations based on my situation. I have been lifting for for about three years, but I only lift 3 days per week. I am over 40 and I am also overweight. My goal is basically to slowly improve my physique and fitness over time. So far, I have been accomplishing that goal. However, I think I need to re-evaluate the exercises that I have been doing most consistently. Right now, I almost always do the following:

Bench press

Front Squats

Pull Ups

Front High-Lift Pulls

Single-arm Lat pull down

I also mix in the following fairly often:

Back ext

DB Military Press

BB Curls

Trap bar Squat

I have had some issues with both sciatica and a shoulder injury a while back.

Any other suggestions? I am especially hoping to improve my back, as that is one area that I neglected for too long. Thanks for the suggestions and happy lifting.

Cheers

UDMURT REPUBLIC (RUSSIA): BODYBUILDING AS SPORT & LIFESTYLE

Bodybuilding is sport and lifestyle and one more proof came from the Udmurt Republic: a federal subject of Russia, within the Volga Federal District, which capital city is Izvesk and this year celebrated the 30th Anniversary of its Regional Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (FBBUR), linked with Russian National Federation and IFBB.

Led by its president, Mr. Oleg Pogodin; the FBBUR celebrated the recent weekend 21s to 23rd September, its most important event, with one important novelty: it was the first time that was celebrated the Bodybuilding Mixed Pairs category…  in wheelchair! The FBBUR celebrated, as well, the official category of Wheelchair Bodybuilding -opened in 2017- but this year did another step forward, with this excellent initiative to integrate men and women in our sports.

ITT current bodybuilders with Golden Era physiques

Since Classic Physique seems to favor physiques reminscent of the 80s and 90s, let's list and talk current bodybuilders with physiques reminiscent of the 50s-70s. Thought this'd be a fun topic since we all love the Golden Era.

That's all I've got. Still kinda new to the bodybuilding scene, so who am I missing?

BODYBUILDING GROWS IN KOSOVO, UNDER OLYMPIC SUPPORT

The recognition of Kosovo Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation by their National Olympicc Committee chaired by Mr. Besim Hasani, has made possible the official support for new activities related with our sports, as the project to host, in 2020; the IFBB Balkan Championships, in Pristina -the capital city of the country-.

During the recent past days, IFBB presentative Mrs. Penny Ioannidou visited the country, invited by the General Secretary of Kosovo´s National Federation, Mr. Sabri Dragusha; in order to have an appointment with Olympic authorities, joined by Mrs. Crysoula Aliferi, the Greek Ambassador in Kosovo; as well as attending the Bodybuilding & Fitness National Championships held in the city of Djakova, on Saturday 15th September.

The 2018 National Championships were a great success, attended by an important number of athletes and by representative State officials as the Vice Minister of Sports who is planning to attend the 2018 IFBB World Bodybuilding Championships that will be held in Benidorm (Spain), in November; in order to meet with President Santonja and analyze the evolution of our sports, in Kosovo.

Why aren't there taller bodybuilders

Heard somewhere that Arnold is the only Mr Olympia winner who is over six foot and that made me wonder why the guys at the top end of the sport tend to be shorter. My guess is it's easier to make gains with shorter muscles, and the emphasis nowadays is more on size and less on aesthetics. I would love to see an Olympia division for > 6 foot, I think it would be great addition for taller guys who struggle to put on mass

Can bodybuilding and swimming mix?

So I have a string of classic physique shows coming up but recently an old friend asked if I would be interested in joining his amateur swim team (swam in college together.) Initially, I turned it down because as we all know that type of cardio is a gains goblin but after doing a bit more thinking I'm trying to find out if its actually possible or if it would affect too much. I strictly swim the 100m so it would be short distance training mostly. Is there a type of cardio that doesn't burn as many calories so I can spend less time in the pool to get in shape for that?

tl;dr I wanna do bodybuilding/swim and find low calorie burning type of cardio to minimize gains lost

Just starting to work on my body

Hello people,

I'm new to body building and never been to gym my whole life. I wanted to understand a few things about some good practices. I'm gonna go to the hostel gym. So, I won't be having the option of a personal trainer.

I looked up on the internet and fixed on a workout routine for myself. Initially, I don't think I'll be able to do full reps for all the sets. So, is it suggested that I start with lesser reps and more sets or more reps and less sets?

I believe I should stretch pre- and post-workout. What exercises would be good for this?

Also I wanted to know, is it necessary that I wear shoes to the gym if I'm not going to work on cardio? What role do they play if I'm not going to run?

One final question, my cousin told me that my body would be in a worse condition if I stop going to the gym after going for a while. I'm currently in college and have free time to go there. However, I'm not sure what the scenario will be like after I graduate. Any thoughts on this would also be highly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Whats the sense of Bodybuilding if you have a weak Frame?

I have extremly narrow shoulders, even with 30lbs of muscle i wont look as Broad as someone with average Broad shoulders.

Ive trained 2 years (AND BEFORE You guys start yelling Things like "You dont eat Right" my diet was perfectly designed!)

..And ive got almost Zero gains, while i saw other guys in the gym Training unconsistent with a shit diet who still had impressive gains.

One Thing which is COMPLETELY IGNORED by the "Natural" Bodybuilder Scene is the FACT that around 25% of the world Population Arent responding with getting more muscular by Lifting weights

This fact IS ABSOLUTELY ignored and is often only seen as a excuse by genetically blessed "natural Bodybuilders"

This shit pisses me extremly off, because it proves that Bodybuilding is Nothing than a big hypocrisy in the endeffect.

I can not decide now if I should take steroids or make a surgery to increase my shoulder width through bone osteotomy

Been lifting for a while. Does low body fat make your face look better?

I’m 29, 5’ 8, 180. Lifts are:

Squat: 350

Press: 160

Dips: 8 reps with 45 pound strapped

Chin ups: 7 reps with 45 pound strapped

Deadlift: don’t know

To reach these lifts I’ve gotten to a fairly high body fat percentage, around 25% or so. I want to start cutting soon. Guess the purpose of the question is hoping for a massive yes that facial aesthetics will increase, to increase my motivation to cut fat. I’m tired of looking round faced with little chin. My fat seems to like to accumulate in my face more than abdomen.

We crave quick results and quick fixes. It sells and it sells very well, in fact. But does it equip you with skills you can apply for the rest of your life?
