Not sure if a bodybuilder was the source of this quote or not but a lot of guys like Dorian, Levrone, etc train completely covered up and I remember seeing a quote, something to the effect of train quietly in secret to... But I can't remember where I saw it, what the exact quote is, or who has said it. Anybody know what I'm talking about? Lol

Genetics for height vs genetics for bodybuilding. Why using examples from the pre-steroid era as limits for natural bodybuilding is fucking stupid.

Imagine taking a few people from the 50s who were pretty tall. Say about 6'4" and then extrapolating that humans cannot possible grow more than 6"7 naturally without GH. Stupid right?

Taking a few people and looking at their height just isn't enough when talking about massive populations like everyone alive today. The exact same thing can be said for bodybuilding in relation to muscle mass. Looking at a few dozen old time bodybuilders just isn't close to enough to determine genetic limits.

There is also an extreme selection factor here too. Make 10 000 people start bodybuilding, what's the probability of a random person in this group to really start to take it seriously? Ok, now take the person that is absolutely the most genetically gifted amongst these 10 000 and ask the question again. Of course, the person who discovers his immense talent is going to take it much more seriously than someone with a normal talent.

I saw many people on this sub being angry at Jeff Nippard for saying that being as big as Frank Zane is possible for people with an extreme genetic potential, but why? What data are you looking at that you can say that's impossible with such confidence?

If you'd ask me whether or not Jeff Nippard himself is taking steroids I would answer: maybe, but maybe not. I would not at all eliminate the possibility that someone has naturally achieved that level of physique and at the same time is working in fitness.

When is someone considered a bodybuilder?

My friend started working out for the first time yesterday and he now calls himself a "bodybuilder"

I asked him why and he said "cuz i workout to gain mass and strength" (which is also the reason why I've been going at it for 4 years except ive never considered myself a bodybuilder.)

Ive always thought someone who is labelled a bodybuilder is a person who has or will compete in a bodybuilding competition show. Or someone who has been working out for a long time and surpasses certain measurements like x inch biceps.

So yeah, when is someone considered a bodybuilder?

RESURGENCE. Hi, I'm Alex Webb. NPC Bodybuilder

Sup Fellas.

I posted once a few years ago when I came onto the scene, but have spent some time focusing on my career on top of being a bodybuilder. I currently manage a large personal training team across a network of gyms in the Buffalo NY area.

I am a nationally qualified heavyweight bodybuilder, having still competed the last two years at a local show and placing well enough to secure the NQ.

This year I am looking to make a dent in the North Americans, where I will be competing in T minus 6 weeks. I will be doing a Bev Francis show in Rochester a few weeks earlier as a warmup.

Here's my gram, I'm not going through the lengths of image posting at this point now being 3 weeks out from the first show. Carbs are low enough, and typing this out makes me question my existence and whether or not I will survive. reddit!

We have some impressive guys in here, so I figured I'd love to get more involved in the discussion as well as answer any questions anybody might have for me.

Why do pro bodybuilders wear so many layers of clothes when they work out?

I've been to golds Venice and metroflex a bunch of times where the meat titans like to lift and it seems like all the huge mofos that are 270 7% body fat all wear a stringer with a tank top over it with a tshirt over that with a long sleeve and then a huge hoodie over all that with long pants and all I'm thinking is.... why. I went last summer to golds Venice in a tank top n shorts and was sweating my dick off in the 100+ degree heat. Then I saw Sean Rhoden in there in 3 shirts and a full track suit. There's no AC in there. So I guess my question is why are all the huge dudes keepin us from mirin?

Thoughts on the newer chiropractic side of bodybuilding? (Cupping, graston, scraping)

There are so many people on ig peddling this practice while every competitor I've talked to in real life hasn't even heard of or thinks that it's pointless. And really, what's the point of putting yourself through so much pain for the purpose of relieving soreness or breaking down scar tissue? Just stretch and carry on.

It just seems like every lifter in the past century has gotten along just fine without this and only now are people spreading it like it's the magical serum to painless and smooth training.

[Discussion] Reduced Meat/Poultry intake and bodybuilding: Is it possible?

So, I'm going to be honest, I watched a documentary that has has me second guessing the amount of red meat but specifically poultry/eggs that I consume.

I have for going on ~6 years now consumed on average 4-6 eggs per day and 12-16 oz. of meat/poultry per day trying to reach that goal of 160-200 g. of protein per day, and TBH up until now I thought I was seeing excellent results.

However, subsequently after watching this film, I am questioning the amount of impact that THIS much consumption is having on the parts of my body not visible. How could I realistically continue to look the way that I want to look and eat less meat? (I do not want to say vegan or vegetarian for those are redactional buzzwords)

Powerlifters and bodybuilders are like quarreling brothers. Some differences they can never fully bridge, and yet, for better or worse, they remain closely related. They do many of the same exercises; bodybuilders squat, deadlift, and bench-press, just as powerlifters crank out sets of triceps extensions, barbell rows, and dumbbell flyes for accessory work. A few bodybuilders—most especially Johnnie Jackson, Stan Efferding, and, in his early years, Ronnie Coleman—have combined powerlifting and bodybuilding to great effect. They’ve ended the tiff and used a lower-rep, power-intense approach to bodybuilding to become both stronger and larger.

Enter power bodybuilding

The idea is that prioritizing strength gains, with the big three lifts, will ensure steady progression in both weight on the bar and muscle on your frame. After all, your body is an adaptive organism that naturally resists the change and stress you place on it in the form of weightlifting. So haplessly lifting weights for a generic rep scheme won’t get you too far. Your body will figure it out and stop growing. But slowly and steadily increasing the load you’re lifting on a weekly basis is a new stressor for your body to adapt to.

In addition to focusing on the three power lifts, the other thing that distinguishes power bodybuilding is its emphasis on heavy sets of relatively low reps. Most sets should be in the six- to eight-rep range. Strength is the goal, not the pump, so skip techniques like dropsets and supersets. Instead, rely on forced reps or controlled cheating to eke out another rep or two. Watch power bodybuilders Branch Warren and Jackson charge through a brutal session, and you’ll quickly understand that—on exercises like pulldowns, dumbbell laterals, and EZ-bar curls—they’d rather loosen their form to keep a set going than stay strict and miss out on that extra rep. After all, it’s those extra reps over the course of a workout that are crucial to growth.

As for accessory work, multi-joint exercises will recruit more overall muscle and trigger a greater release of testosterone—the key hormone involved in the muscle recovery process. So use those. And if you’re still not convinced, ask yourself: When’s the last time you saw a small guy deadlift and squat 500-plus lbs? That’s what we thought.

Power bodybuilding tip sheet

  • Emphasize free-weight basics like barbell rows, military presses, and dumbbell incline presses.
  • Continually strive to use heavier weights. Switch in a different exercise if you’re not progressing.
  • Do mostly straight sets, but have a spotter assist you with forced reps.
  • Work calves and abs with sets of 10 to 15 reps.

Power bodybuilding basics

  • Include the three powerlifts—squats, deadlifts, and bench presses—in your workout program.
  • Do the powerlifts first in your leg (squat), back (deadlift), and chest (bench press) routines.
  • Pyramid the powerlifts down, going as low as four reps.
  • Do most other exercises for sets of six to eight reps.

Are there counters in pro bodybuilding (like pokemon)?

Kinda like how in pokemon grass beats water, water beats fire, and fire beats grass, are there "counters" in bodybuilding?

Like if chestdude beats latsdude, latsdude beats deltboi, and deltboi beats chestdude by bringing attention to their weaknesses, AFAIK there are never 1v1s in bodybuilding, more like FFA with 5-10 guys at a time, but is this something that could happen in theory?

Would anyone want to see a video series of what it would be like for someone to be given all the resources of a pro bodybuilder and follow them through an off-season and competition prep?

Hey Guys!

I have a friend who is a CEO at a supplement company. We've been talking on and off for the last few months about content that people actually want to see. I'm actually big into the production side of filmmaking and content creation and have just started work on a feature length documentary that will hopefully be out in 18 months to 2 years and that is how we got onto the subject.

One of the big issues he brought up was that most content put out by supplement companies is all the same. It's that old muscular development style of videos where everything kind of feels like an act. I told him that there are some really great you tubers out there as far as content but that most of those people aren't really high level bodybuilders. We started talking about what it would be like to show someone who wasn't a high level bodybuilder and give them all the tools to get to that level. (Well as close to that level as genetics would allow) To be honest and show what it really takes for someone going through the process. Training, diet, doctors visits, emails from coaches... every step of the way. From what I know... and I consume a lot of online content... there isn't anything else out there like this. A lot of this i think is because of bodybuilders fearing the repercussions of being that honest. It could effect their entire career.

I won't go into to much detail about the film I'm making but the content matter is pretty close but less advertiser friendly. So when he brought it up I was more than willing to be a part of it. It helps me out with the film I'm making and it helps his company put out quality content.

I guess the only question left is if there would be an audience for it. Would you guys want to see that? So that is why I'm reaching out here? I want to know what you guys think? What concerns do you have with a project like this and what would be some of the aspects you would be most interested in if this were to happen? I'm thinking a daily vlog series and an accompanying written post in the description of the video or one linked in the description. I was already working on putting one out as a behind the scenes for the film so this wouldn't be much of a stretch. I don't know if it would be posted here. That would be up to the mods. But this form is much less naive than others so I thought it would be a good place to collect real constructive feedback.

One thing I told him is that it would need to be extremely transparent that this was a sponsored series. That just because we knew each other didn't change the fact that he was the CEO of a company that sells products. I'm not really a big fan of most supplement companies or fitness celebrities... actually that's putting it really nicely. That being said a project like this isn't really possible without help from a supplement company.

I cannot remember this bodybuilders name...

Alright. So. I was talking to my husband about a powerlifter whose been suffering lots of injuries lately and he asked if this was the "short guy with the crazy legs" and I totally cannot remember the name of who he's talking about, although I can picture him. I know this isn't what this subreddit is for, but I've been googling for 45 minutes and I cannot find this guy and its just...driving me insane. He's young, manlet sized, wears glasses, insane quads, uses (or used, this was 2015 I followed him) IIFYM, posts alot about...cereal, I believe? Possibly also poptarts. Also powerlifts but I'm not sure about feds/if he competes but posted his lifts pretty frequently.

Kind of a noob to bodybuilding. I have a couple of questions!

You guys have never failed to amaze me, and you've been a huge inspiration to me.

I got into bodybuilding rather than just trying to be "fit" about a year ago. Since then, I've gained a ton of weight, and I look and feel better than I ever have in my entire life.

I originally started lifting in high school because I was tired of being treated like the little bitch I was. Now I've made impressive gains, and I'm trying to shred down a bit, and maintain my muscle.

What's the best way to do cardio/conditioning for fat loss, but not lose my gains?

What's the best supplement stack for cutting that won't destroy my bank account?

I feel that straight up cardio, like jogging and running do nothing for me, as I've been trying to cut for a few months with little to no result in the mirror or the scale. What are some alternatives?

Basic info: 21 years old, 5'10", 190 lbs.

Also, any info on how to get rid of small ankles and calves would be huge.

what's your thoughts on the 'classic open weight' bodybuilding division?

I'm entering my first bodybuilding contest this October (the RIBBF Irish Nationals). I'm entering the classic open weight division (there won't be a classic physique division). Being 5ft 10" I'll have a maximum contest weight of 86kg. I rarely hear this division being talked about. Is it popular where you guys are from?
