Is it possible to succeed in bodybuilding without doing strength training?

Every routine I see has some strength training (usually 3x5 for the Big 3). I've never seen a pure hypertrophy routine.

I was wondering if anyone's seen any success by doing only high rep work and no strength work.

Or is strength training essential for body building as well?
